Status

PayWise supports Shopify merchants through multiple paths, and they do not all have the same rollout status.

• Sandbox beta: a Shopify sandbox beta is available in PayWise Business when enabled.
• Assisted setup: PayWise support can help merchants use hosted checkout and payment-link flows today.
• Managed beta adapter: PayWise also has a controlled Shopify adapter path for guided rollouts.
• Broad general-availability self-serve should not be assumed at this time.
• This is not a public marketplace, automatic setup, or automatic live-activation flow.

Sandbox Beta In PayWise Business

When Shopify sandbox beta is enabled for a merchant in PayWise Business, the first setup action is entering a Shopify store domain in the format *.myshopify.com.

Sandbox beta setup states

Use the PayWise Business labels as the source of truth:

• Sandbox beta
• Store domain accepted
• Sandbox setup
• Ready for sandbox test
• Sandbox test recorded
• Live review required

What "Store domain accepted" means

Store domain accepted means PayWise accepted the Shopify domain format and uniqueness for sandbox setup.

It does not mean PayWise verified store ownership.

Sandbox beta limitations

• Sandbox setup is for testing only.
• Live activation still requires PayWise review and live credentials.
• This path should not be described as a broadly available public launch.
• Validation to date is app-level and API-backed, not a screenshot-certified UX sign-off for broader claims.

Recommended Path Today

The fastest supported Shopify path today depends on which Shopify path is enabled for your merchant:

1. If Shopify sandbox beta is enabled in PayWise Business, enter your Shopify store domain in the format *.myshopify.com.
2. Wait for Store domain accepted before continuing with sandbox setup.
3. Complete Sandbox setup and move to Ready for sandbox test.
4. Record a sandbox test before requesting any live review.
5. After sandbox success, proceed only through the Live review required path.
6. Do not attempt live use until PayWise completes review and issues live credentials.

If Shopify sandbox beta is not enabled for your merchant, use the assisted hosted checkout or payment-link path instead.

Important

• A Shopify store domain must end with .myshopify.com.
• Invalid domains are rejected before sandbox setup continues.
• Store domain accepted does not mean PayWise has checked who controls the store.
• Live review cannot start from the initial draft state.

What The Merchant Needs

Before a merchant starts Shopify sandbox beta or assisted setup, they should be ready to provide:

• Shopify store domain, for example store-name.myshopify.com
• PayWise Business access, if Shopify sandbox beta is enabled for the merchant
• PayWise project/API key, if the merchant is using the assisted checkout path
• PayWise business account and business api_key, if the merchant is using the assisted checkout path
• Confirmation of whether the setup is for sandbox or live
• Store currency and payment requirements
• PayWise review before going live

What PayWise Configures

PayWise helps configure the merchant-facing Shopify path at a high level by confirming:

• the appropriate Shopify path for the merchant
• sandbox beta enablement, if that rollout applies
• hosted checkout or payment-link routing, if the assisted path is appropriate
• sandbox validation steps
• live readiness, PayWise review, and live credential requirements
• any managed Shopify adapter setup, if that path is appropriate

PayWise may need additional merchant details during onboarding, but internal-only credentials and internal setup details are not shared as part of the merchant guide.

Assisted Hosted Checkout And Payment Links

The standard PayWise checkout flow remains the fallback Shopify path when sandbox beta is not enabled for a merchant.

This means:

• the merchant can test PayWise checkout in sandbox
• the merchant can create hosted checkout or payment-link payment requests
• PayWise support can help align that flow to the merchant's Shopify checkout process

If you only need a working PayWise payment path for Shopify today, this is the fastest safe route.

Sandbox Versus Live

Sandbox

Sandbox is for testing.

Use sandbox to:

• validate project keys
• validate the business api_key
• confirm the payment flow you plan to use
• run end-to-end checkout tests before requesting live activation

Live

Live payments require PayWise approval and live credentials.

• Sandbox API keys and sandbox business api_key values cannot be used for live payments.
• Shopify sandbox beta still requires PayWise review before the merchant is approved to go live.
• Do not switch a Shopify flow to live mode until PayWise confirms readiness.

Managed Beta Adapter

PayWise has a dedicated Shopify adapter for controlled and managed beta use.

The managed beta adapter is:

• a PayWise-managed Shopify integration path
• not a broadly available public Shopify integration today
• intended for guided rollout with PayWise support

Merchants should not try to configure the managed beta adapter without PayWise guidance.

Future Self-Serve Path

PayWise may provide a broader Shopify self-serve path in the future.

Today, the correct expectation is:

• Shopify sandbox beta in PayWise Business: available when enabled
• Hosted checkout / payment-link path: available now with PayWise assistance
• Managed beta adapter: available only with PayWise guidance
• Broad public general availability: not currently available

Troubleshooting

Symptom	Likely cause	Fix
Shopify store domain is rejected	The domain format is invalid or the store domain cannot be accepted for sandbox setup.	Use a domain ending in .myshopify.com and retry.
Store domain accepted is shown, but the merchant assumes the store has been control-checked	The label only confirms format/uniqueness acceptance for sandbox setup.	Continue sandbox setup, but do not treat this as proof that PayWise checked who controls the store.
Merchant wants to request live review immediately from draft	The merchant has not progressed through sandbox setup and sandbox testing yet.	Complete sandbox setup and record a sandbox test before requesting live review.
Sandbox dashboard or passkey issue blocks progress	The merchant may have a separate account-access issue.	Contact PayWise support for the account issue. Shopify setup can still be reviewed in parallel.
API key created, but Shopify is still not connected	Creating a PayWise API key does not by itself complete Shopify sandbox beta or assisted Shopify setup.	Use the PayWise Business sandbox beta path when enabled, or follow the assisted Shopify path.
Wrong environment used	Sandbox credentials are being used in live mode, or live credentials are being used in sandbox.	Confirm whether you are testing in sandbox or live and use the matching credentials and URLs.
Account API access error	Account API is restricted and is not required for normal hosted checkout or payment-link testing.	Use the Payments API / checkout path unless Account API access was specifically approved for your project.

When contacting PayWise about Shopify setup, include:

• your Shopify store domain
• whether you are working in sandbox or live mode
• whether Shopify sandbox beta is enabled in PayWise Business for your merchant
• your project/API key status
• whether you already created a business account and business api_key
• your target currency and payment requirements
• any relevant PayWise request IDs or timestamps if you already tested checkout
